If I remember correctly, the Porsche engine and Volkswagen will bolt up together. Use a Porsche clutch, pressure plate and VW throwout bearing. If you had the Porsche transmission it will bolt in too, and the advantage is that the VW is a 4 speed and the Porsche is a 5 speed.
Now the hard part. the Porsche is a 6 cylinder engine and the VW only has 4. All the VW engine shrouding won’t work with this swap, and you might have to do some bodywork to the VW to get that big engine to fit.
But this swap IS possible, and makes a cool car once it’s done. Good luck.
This swap is “possible” but not practicable. This will be an enormous undertaking because the 3 liter SC engine will not fit in the VW engine bay. The VW transmission won’t handle the torque, etc. Huge modifications will be required. Think in terms of years to complete and thousands and thousands of dollars in expense.
You would be better off selling the SC engine (very popular for a 914/6 conversion and a good engine) and putting a 4 cylinder Type IV engine in your VW for great performance. Jake Raby is the guru of these conversions. Check his site below. He might even swap you a Type IV engine for your 6 cylinder. Jake can build a Type IV with more HP than your SC engine and it’ll fit right in your VW engine bay.

The Type IV mill will fit right in with only a few mods, & works great. The biggest expenses are dual carbs & the exhaust.
You can swipe a Type IV engine from any VW 411 or 412, a mid ’72 or later Transporter, or a Porsche 914 or 912.
The Type IV engine can be punched out to 2400 cc without losing any reliability. Bolt on a pair of 44mm carbs, & you’re off. The really nice thing is that you add less than 50 lbs of extra weight. If you really want to get radical, you can convert to a Bus tranny too, as they’re much stronger than the Type I unit, but it’s a lot of work.
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
