Which one is better BMW X5 4.8 or Porsche Cayenne S ?

porsche cayenne

Obviously I know both are great. I know BMW (I have a BMW E46 and I used to have a E36), but I never have any kind of Porsche. Does anyone try both? Do you know about any comparison ? In driving, handling, safety for instance.

get the BMW. sure you’ll be at a 30 hp disadvantage but how many times are you going to be racing a Cayenne S when driving? the good news is that the beemer has a lower starting price (by a couple grand) so it will be easier on the wallet…..

For the price your wallet will be happier with the BMW. It’s an SUV, so are ya really gonna be racing it against and Cayenne? If you are then buy an M5 or M6 instead so you can insure victory.

Personally i like the BMW, just nicer looks. Problem with the Cayenne is they look a little like it vw brother.

wow I am considering both of these cars myself. Unfortunately when building the Cayenne the price drastically increases as its hardly equipped.
For myself I think the X5 is a better buy, espcially since I will be importing mine from the US (I am from Canada), I won’t have to pay most of the duties because the X5 is built in the USA. (woot NAFTA).

    I have driven both cars.
The BMW has better throttle responce, but the Porsche is faster and bigger on the inside.
The Porsche is also more aerodynamic than the more boxy BMW X5.
As for luxury, these cars are equal. They both offer the same amenities.
I would prefer the Porsche because it seemed like the better car. It was also the best selling SUV in 2004 and 2005.

I tried both last year and ended up buying the BMW.

The Cayennes have not had a good history so far. In fact in 2006 they alone brought the Porsche marque down on the reliability chart. The 08s were a BIG change for their engines, and hopefully the electronics which were problematic.

    My impressions were as follows
They are both about the same height. The BMW feels wider. Trunk space is about the same. As you’ve noted, the S is best compared to the 4.8i engine on the BMW (not the 3.0). They are both very effective, but the Porsche is SOOO much heavier, that you feel that you need the extra OOOMPH just getting onto the hiway. On the hiway, the Porsche is effortless in passing, the BMW is very close.
The BMW was significantly quieter to me than the Porsche.
I hated the ignition key on the left side on the Porsche. It felt awkward.

    Pricing:
I have never seen a vehicle more piecemeal than a Porsche. Go to Edmunds.com. There are 2 pages of options, and few packages. I do like the Titanium edition of the “S”, since it has two tone leather interior, but you can push an “S” so close to $100K without trying too hard. My BMW was loaded (incl Navi, Heated rear seats, panaview roof glass, the “woiks” and out the door it cost me $60k). The VW frame that the Cayenne is built on is the same for quite a bit less. The engines are different, but otherwise they are the same. Tires go fast on the Cayenne too.

So, it comes down to your priorities. Better mileage with the BMW, lower insurance costs, good build quality. But driving a Porsche is still….driving a Porsche, the sound from the exhaust, the engine response.. it’s all there.

I’m glad I went with my BMW X5.

EDIT: Cayenne best selling SUV ??? Never happened..

ok well since the engine and luxuries are discussed and they both are really similar…its time to talk about the overall view of the car

BMW owns it…the Porsche Cayenne is so freakin ugly and the front end looks retarded and is skinny…and for headlights, they didnt even bother with changing them a little…just threw on a pair from one of their cars…BAD move…disgusting

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
