Was looking at a Porsche 924, looks in great condition and at a cheap price. This would be my first car however I have saved up some money to buy a car I like and pay insurance.
After buying though how much money would you say would be needed for upkeep of the car?
And would you yourself buy one?
This is really an honest question I have fallen in love with the car by looks but then again don’t judge a book by its cover, my Dad wants me to stay away from it would anyone suggest different?

Sounds nice, but on a car like that, they really gouge you for parts and labor if something breaks or wears out.
I would stay away from a 924. When I was 16 I wanted to do the same thing-buy a 924 because it had a Porsche name and looking back now Im glad I didnt.. The prestige with the Porsche name is tempting but realistically the 924 is not that great and doesnt justify the Porsche badge. I think a 944 might be a better choice but would be costly to own-especially for a 1st car. I think for the $ and for a first car Id go with a BMW 3 series (if you want to stay German). They probably could beat a 924 and they have a better reputation. Dont buy a 924. Im 36 now and have a Porsche 911. Its the best car Ive had (I had BMW,Jaguar and Corvette in the past). Wait til youre older and have a little more experience with driving and car ownership then get a real Porsche. You will appreciate it more. Let me know your price range and age (driving experience) and I will suggest a car.
I would consider a 944 instead of a 924. Check out my yahoo group all about 944′s and ask all your questions.

This isn’t a lie, but I am 16 and bought myself a 924! So I can tell you some information:
The 924 is a nice car! The 911 only guys say it doesn’t deserve the Porsche badge, but if it didn’t deserve the badge, why would Porsche put the badge on the car?
They are cheap to buy and the parts for them are quite cheap, compared to the the 944, 928, or 911. Sorry to say, but many of the parts are Audi or VW. The Head of the engine was made by Porsche.
The 924 is not that fast compared to other cars now, but it makes up for it by having little body roll and sticking to road like glue.
Things to watch for!
1. knocking in the engine, which is the sign the cam is worn. My 924 had this, and I had to buy a new head for the engine. I was lucky that I got an exelent shape one for $50.
2. Rusted out battery box: Common in many Porsches more than 20 years old. You cannot weld in a new piece of metal, as the metal there is a bit thin and it is galvanized. What you have to do is rivet in new pieces of metal and cover with fiberglass.
3. Sunroof leakage: The sunroof was never made water tight, as the water that went around the sunroof was caught and drained down tubes. If the the sunroof is leaking water into the car, you need to blow air through the drain tubes to clear them out.
4. Brakes work poorly, well this isn’t a problem! Most cars have auto-adjusting drum brakes, but the 924 doesn’t, which just means they need to be adjusted.
I’d buy one! They are a real attention getter and your friends will be jealous. If you want to really upgrade the looks on the 924, buy a 944 spoiler (all three pieces) for the glass hatch. Really makes the car look slick!

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
