Is it embarrasing when your Porsche Cayenne Turbo gets blown away by a Cherokee SRT8?

porsche

Yeah, you just paid 100K for a “performance” SUV that gets absolutely smoked by a 40K Jeep.
Usually when a Porsche has a “Turbo” emblem, it means it has a turbocharger.
0-60 in five seconds huh? The SRT8 does it in 4.6. I guess your still too slow to keep up with real American Muscle.

Actually you can spend around $50,000 for a base Porsche Cayenne so the one you were racing was probably a Base model. I have never seen a Turbo version except when driven by a NBA player in my area.

But yea it would be probably damn embarassing.

that is what happens when you take on a HEMI a big one..6.7lt.

i would b so embarrased>>> i mean the turbo is faster than the srt8 by 30hp.. i finally found yur problem- yur turbo is heavier than the srt8 (over 5000lbs). weight reduction will be good.
stay wit yur turbo cuz it has better features than the srt8.. but weight reduction makes a difference..

Yes and no. The cayenne is much heavier, much more comfortable, and much more luxurious, so its somewhat expected. Anyways, its hardly “smoked.” Its a pretty even competition speed wise.

That beign said, the jeep is a seriously impressive machine (I have driven both, and the SRT8 was very impressive for its cost).

Well maybe your Porsche Cayenne Turbo might not be able to beat the Grand Cherokee SRT/8 but my 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S will beat any SUV on the Road, 0-60 in 5 seconds, top speed 175 mph.

Hell yea I’d be Embarrasing to be beaten by a Vehicle less then Half the Price of your Porsche Cayenne Turbo, maybe it has Turbo Lag Because my Porsche Cayenne Turbo S has a Twin turbo Engine so you get Turbocharged Acceleration even With the Slightest press of the loud Paddle and after the First Turbo Is Fully Engaged the Second Turbo kicks in so you won’t get Turbo Lag.

Porsche has always been pioneers when it comes to Turbocharged Cars, their cars have the Least amount of Turbo Lag or lets Just say no TurboLag at all.

    Maybe it wasnt your day.!!!

Who races SUV’s anyway? WTF The guy who pulls in with a Porsche will get a lot more respect than the guy with a Jeep, there is a reason the Porsche cost more its better quality and represents high class/status.

Not that big of a difference it comes down to a drivers race, so much for getting “smoked” because it would be hard to tell who would win if you actually watched the two race.
    2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 1/4 mile 13.311
    2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 1/4 mile 13.510

P.S: You can make a neon have 900hp does that make it better than a Ferrari?

  7. Jack667 - September 12th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

Porsche performance has never been primarily about straight-line acceleration. Try both of these out on a road course like Watkins Glen and then you’ll see the difference.
For the street, just sit in both and you’ll feel the difference. If you can’t afford, or are not willing to spend the extra coin on the Porsche, then be happy with the Jeep. There are tons of great vehicles on the market, and each has a niche. Respect the niche of the Cayenne Turbo. I respect the niche of the Jeep.

Check this out – the Cayenne Turbo vs another American Monster SUV:=

As the commentator says, they’re all brilliant!!

    Take it easy…

That is a clever piece of logic in realizing that a Cayenne ‘Turbo’ has a…turbo. But yes, off the line especially, the Jeep has, if I’m not mistaken, 1.9 liters of displacement of the Porsche, (4.2 to 6.1) and the Jeep is further aided in that it is a naturally aspirated motor, getting all of its grunt from way down low from those big ol’ coffee cans down in front. Starting at the upper middle and near the higher end of the rev-range, I would assume about 3500 and up, the Porsche will begin to make up for it when the Turbo really starts to spin. Technically faster, yes, but the Porsche is infinitely more liveable, more competant off-road thanks to it’s Toureg DNA, better-on road manners even when pushing, and the prestiege and fun features that driving a German luxury brand brings. Both Car and Driver and Road and Track magazine have praised the Porsche for it’s overall package, and although recognizing that the SRT8 is faster in a straight line, it can’t even think about touching the Porsche in the twisties, and is simply a more favorable vehicle for daily driving, due to better mileage, and better creature comforts on the inside. As far as the price goes, think of it this way. Although I think 80,000 is closer to the actual price of the Porsche, keep this in mind. The Porsche is by no means a slouch, and lots of people, relatively speaking, pay that much for a Porsche…but who lays down 40k for a Jeep?

  9. Sharon - September 18th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

I can’t imagine ever feeling embarrased in my Porsche. A Jeep is still a Jeep and a Porsche is still…..a Porsche. I don’t know anyone who would prefer a Jeep, or any American car, over a Porsche. I know I wouldn’t.

  10. mrhan1 - September 21st, 2008 at 1:21 pm

What a silly question. Who actually races their SUVs?

  11. younghova68 - September 22nd, 2008 at 11:08 am

there is a reason a porsche costs more then a Jeep. Its not because the germans are less efficient in car building. Believe me. The Cayenne blows the little jeep away on the straight, on the track with curves, and offroad. Little Jeep. Jeep is garbage and that is why people want a porsche not a jeep. Porsche is ofcourse the worlds most profitable car company. little jeep. oh and meredes-benz owns jeep anyway.

  12. justintimberlakefan - September 22nd, 2008 at 4:45 pm

That would be pretty embarrassing but the Porsche is definitely better. American muscle is overrated I love the Euro cars they’re better in every way, in my opinion.

  13. Lex - September 24th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Are you sure that happened? The Porsche Cayenne Turbo was the fastest SUV on the market (it was replaced by the Cayenne Turbo S, but still). You have the second fastest stock SUV. Maybe the Jeep guy did some after market performance stuff to his car. That’s the only explanation. Either that or you weren’t trying.

I wonder how embarrassing you’ll be when it’s 10 years old and you sell it for 5K, or the simple fact that when you valet park it your car get put away to the spots that are behind the club, and the Porsche stays in the good spots up front . Speed isn’t everything

  15. Nate_82 - September 30th, 2008 at 11:51 am

No. The slowest Porsche will always be cooler than the fastest Jeep.

  16. Brandon K - October 2nd, 2008 at 4:37 am

Wait wait wait. You baught a Porsche for 100k. Thats flat out insane. bad choice of car for the money. Unless your the 45 year old that goes to work everyday 9-5. If you would of used your head when spending that 100k you could of baught a 911 turbo. If you had that not many cars can touch that thing

  17. jonboy2five - October 5th, 2008 at 12:33 pm

the “turbo” emblem means it does have a turbo. it is slower because its heavier. and since you are asking, would you be embarrassed if your srt8 was “blown away” by an old ford bronco with a supercharged 600hp 351? huh? thats what i thought…

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  24. ehow - October 15th, 2010 at 3:17 am

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

  26. how to write a resume - October 20th, 2010 at 2:12 am

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
