It would be a ’99 Boxster…the kid is pretty responsible, gets good grades and doesn’t get in trouble at school or home. IDK if we should or not especially since its a convertible and a manual transmission. Any advice?
It’s a HE and the car costs about 11 grand. that’s kind of expensive but he says it’ll be the only car he drives through high school and college.
Best Deal Ads :

Yea i wouldnt do it because the insurance rate for males is soo high and 11grand is still quiet a bit of money and to fix it up and maintain it..
well try and see.
Good grades doesn’t matter when you’re on the road.
Yeah, the ’99 Boxster wouldn’t be the best choice, but it’s not a bad choice either. The power isn’t that high, so you shouldn’t get yourself in too much trouble.
Personally I wouldn’t get it for my son. Come on, we all wanted a nice sports car as a kid….and looking bad weren’t you glad you didn’t kill yourself in a sportscar as a kid?
Edit:
Okay, I am only 26, and have a few high powered coupes and sedans, so I understand.
The ’99 Boxster isn’t powerful enough to hurt yourself. It just isn’t. What may get to you, is the distraction and more involvement of the manual tranny. As well, Boxster don’t have to be maintained as often. Or the oil changed as often because it takes more. But when you do take it for maintanace it will cost. Budget over $1000/year just for maintanance. At least that’s what the salesguy told me when I was shopping for a Boxster.
Not really. I would settle with a toyota SALORA for him. It’s sporty like.
Plus the insurance rate for a kid that age is very high.
if you want your kid to die, then yes. if you buy him that car there will be so much peer preasure on him about going fast and racing and stuff. At 16 i’de buy him deffinetly a 4 cylender car to start off with thats not to showy
are you nuts?lets not loose him too early.we cant get him back.buy him a corrolla or something he can see out of
i think its a bad idea.
I take it YOU’RE the 16 year old , and you’re trying to convince your parents?…..
Any kind of Porsche is expensive, to own, maintain, and fix. Insurance for that kind of car, even with it being a 99 will be very expensive, especially when the driver is so young. its like hanging a sign around your neck asking to get pulled over
A first car should be as safe as possible, because they can be a good kid and a cautious driver, but not everyone else is. Plus that kind of power should be for a more experienced driver, because most accidents can be avoided, if you know how to handle the situation. I’m 22 and notice a huge difference in my driving abilities from then to now. That would be a college graduation gift, I think, after they have gained a great deal of driving experience. Kinda like car insurance dropping after you’re 25. 75% of deaths of people between the ages 16-24 are from car accidents. I do not think it would be a good idea. If it’s a good deal, buy it for yourself, and let them earn it with college grades. they can still drive it every once in a while.
When I sent my 16 year olds out with a car, it was a 1.3 litre lada, under-powered being the operative word.
16 year olds need a few years of driving experience before they should be in a car as powerful as this.
Now that car was only a 4000 dollar car, but that was not even part of the reasoning. I did not want them to have even the slightest temptation to race it, and wanted to have them learn to stay behind rather than passing everything in sight. 16 year olds still need time to develop wisdom.
I supposed the kid is you.
Well, sometimes, drunkens always say that they are not drunk! Come back to this, I think that for a 16 yrs old to drive a Porsche is not a good thing.
Yes it’s a damn good car. This and that. BUT, this will slowly make him become materialistic in time to come, without him realising. Branded things, phones, bags, outfits. EVERYTHING.
It is always ok to start humble, with all the small things, cheap but good cars/cloths/bla bla bla.
Why not? Learn through the harder way first, then only he will learn how to treasure life and things better.
A teenager in a fast car is a bad idea.alot of people like to race just because they think thier car is fast. there is a difference between good morals in school and good morals inside a car. good morals seem to take a back seat to egos and testosterone once inside a car, especially something like a boxer. i wouldnt recommend it, but in the end, its your decision. just take into account the number of teenage lives lost in the past few years due to just bieng inside a car.
it screams “rich kid” and he might have lots of haters in school. other than that, given the raging hormones of a teenager, it might not be a good idea either to give him lots of horses under his right foot.
if he is perfectly under control all the time, has the sense and responsibility of someone ten years older, and can brush off all those haters, then yeah, why not reward him if you can afford it? though i might try to look for a car that isn’t as cool (but not too “normal” either), but is much younger…
the car only costs 11 grand but your insurance will be about that a year. Learn how to drive first before you get a porsche.
.You have to be trying to convince your parents to go thru with this deal. My response is NO! A Porsche is not a good idea for a first car. Good grades and so far ‘pretty responsible’ is no indication of how HE will react to peer pressure once he is on his own with friends. My recommendation would be something used that looks good but not too much horsepower, see how he handles it, and if he doesn’t wreck it in nine months or have too many tickets, then THINK about upgrading.
It is a horrid idea unless you want there to be a high possibility you will have to arrange a funeral for him. The Boxster is a high performance machine far beyond the capability of an inexperienced driver.
And besides, by giving him a really hot car right off, what does he have to look forward to later in life. A Boxster is something you work you way towards.
A 10 year old Honda Civic or the like is all the car a new driver should have. They can still get around and they learn the value of money.
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Outstanding weblog, thanks for writing this report

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
Would you mind if I reference a few sentences from your post? I’m researching for project for highschool. Thanks!

Great page, I like how the website looks! The style is great!
Very nice site!
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Hi – very good web site you have established. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to issue a comment to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically pleasing. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor in chief for a marketing firm. I have always enjoyed playing with information processing systems and am attempting to learn code in my spare time (which there is never enough of lol).
