Racing school, one day, your own car (Porsche) – Florida?

I’m trying to help my friend buy her boyfriend buy the ulitmate Christmas gift, which we decided would be for him to acually get to drive his new Porsche for REAL. He owns multpile “high end” cars, mostly BMWs, and loves them so much he’s already looking to buy another species Porsche. What could be better than to let him train for a day and actulally see what they can do for real? He has always loved cars, but is annoyingly slow on the highway because he doesn’t want to get tickets like he did when he was younger (he’s 60 now). He is thinking of joining a new “executive” race track being built in our area, but at 200K inital membership fee, she thinks just getting out and trying it first would be a great gift. It needs to be a class with pro instuctors and training, allow your own car, only one day or less long, and be GREAT! The budget is about $600 or less, and very best that it’s in Florida (Homestead?). I.ve seen NASA’s site – any advice on how to go about it and if its worth it?

Stay protected and outfitted while racing at the track. Racing shoes, suits, helmets, harness kits, gloves, and more.

Porsche Cayenne good car?

My friend’s mom wanted to get one for her I think it’s 2006 or something but I wanted to know if its a good car for her.
She’s 20 and she’s getting out of university. So it’s a gift.
I’ve never seen Eagle Eye but I will look it up.
It only comes stick?
It’s a used one so the range rover isn’t an option.
Firstly the range rover is what her mom has and I don’t think she would want the same thing and if she wanted to drive the range rover then she can take her mom’s she also likes the Cayenne I don’t find it ugly either.
Yeah her Dad is a mechanic so she won’t have to pay for tune ups only parts if something needs to be repaid.

Question regarding God and “Watchmen” (SPOILERS!)?

porsche spoiler

I’m about to give away some of the plot of the new movie “Watchmen”, so don’t read if you don’t want to have the movie ruined for you…

You’ve been warned…

In the film, the villain perpetrates a massive hoax to make it look like Dr. Manhattan (a superhuman who’s so powerful that, for all intents and purposes, he’s God) goes all “Old Testament” on Earth and destroys half of New York. The villain does so in order to scare humanity into stopping the Cold War between the U.S. and Russia and bring about world peace. This got me to wondering: If God WAS present and obvious on Earth the way Dr. Manhattan was in the movie, and he did start actively smiting humans when they got too big for their britches, do you think it would change your day-to-day behavior? Would you think your own misdeeds would go unnoticed or be forgiven anyway? How would you feel if it wasn’t you being bad, but your neighbors and casual acquaintenances; and God caused some catastrophe that wiped out the righteous and the wicked alike — the way some folks say God did with Hurricane Katrina?

And out of curiosity, are you thinking about seeing this film? As a confessed comic book geek my perception is admittedly a bit skewed, but I’m curious to know if this movie is getting the general public’s attention the way it has for me and my friends…

EDIT: Bizarre — Y!A originally wanted to put this question in “Cars & Transportation > Car Makes > Porsche”…

Advice from Porsche Boxster owners: 2003 vs. 2005?

porsche vs

I test-drove the 2003 Porsche Boxster for the first time today and I am very impressed. I saw a 2005 Boxster at the same dealership, and it costs about $10,000 more than the 2003.

A friend who has a Honda S2000 keeps telling me how expensive maintenance is for German cars. The salesperson told me I’d probably only need to service the car once a year and it would be about $350, barring major problems, of course.

I need some advice from Boxster owners, please. Thanks.
Everyone seems to be especially keen on the S model. I read about it so I generally understand the concept, but why is it so much more desirable? I drove the non-S model and loved it. Of course, it was my first time to drive a Boxster.
I test drove the S2000 on a busy interstate exchange in the rain and do not wish to repeat the experience. Poor visibility, for one thing.

Relatively cheap, quick car?

Note: Please, i do not want this to turn into a tuner / muscle war as so many of these car discussions do, make this unbiased and objective please.

hey, I am thinking of getting a cheap car($3,000 – $6,000) that is also quick, but not necessarily fast(for i know i am not finding something truly fast within that price range). I am looking for something with a displacement of over 2.7 liters(sorry honda’s) for i know not many cars have a power to displacement ratio of over 100hp/liter even if tuned, so 1.8 integra’s are out of the question. No v8′s because of fuel, i was looking for a big I4, I6, or V6. The best i have found so far is a 1989 Porsche 944 turbo for $5,000 that makes 200 something hp stock. Just looking for a quick, fun, cheap daily driver. please do not say a civic, yes they are fun but are very slow even tuned( i have driven them).

Please, take this as a challenge to find something. I am not terribly worried about reliability, i fix things, but it is a small factor. A manual would be preferred , but not necessary.
Thanks for the advice PMack, i already figured that the Porsche would be more expensive but I’ve been told it is one of the best handling cars on the road and i just think it looks better(but that is just my opinion) than a Mustang or Camaro. I had a 3800 in an old’s 88 but i blew it up, so i might not go with that engine again although i did like its performance. I have ways of fixing the Porsche without using Porsche parts for 60% of the problems it will face. I will however look out for a Firebird now that you mention it, and mabey i will go with the v8!?
