Hi,
I have a 2005 boxster (987 I believe) and am having some problems with my key.
I had a little accident and the plastic housing that contains the buttons for opening the doors etc cracked. So I decided to repair this by opening up the housing and utilising a little superglue.
Now, its been a while since I repaired the key so when I tried to unlock the doors using the buttons on the key this morning nothing happened. The buttons appear to work perfectly, when I push them down the LED on the key lights up as it should. I can open the doors on the car perfectly fine and even start it up.
I’d really appreciate any help on this topic, I dare not even ring up porsche as I know its gonna cost a bomb to get a new key.
Thanks ![]()
Hi,
Many thanks for the quick response! I have tried the key after having started the car up, but it still wont open the doors . As I said the LED on the key lights up when I push the buttons on the key, so it appears to be functioning “normally”.

EDIT – I noticed your question on Porsche Pete’s and saw Frogster’s response. It took me a while to find the “re-sync” procedure he was talking about, so I figured I would post it here in case you had not found it yet.
1. Switch on ignition with key
2. Switch off ignition with key
3. Remove key from ignition switch
4. Operate remote transmitter on key within 6 (six) seconds of removing key.
It should now be re-sync’d.
Good luck!
If you don’t use a key for 5 days it goes inactive, the computer won’t recognize it, this is an anti theft measure. To reactivate the key, just put it in the door lock, turn it to unlock the door, and the computer will now recognize the key. If this is not the problem, please edit your post saying so, and I’ll try to help out, but I’ve had the same problem you are describing.
Good luck.
After re-reading your post, I notice you said you can open the doors and even start the car, so what I suggest may not help you. Have you tried the remote after you used the key to open the door? If so, and it still didn’t work, well I just don’t know for sure. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.
