So it all came down between two Porsche’s the cayman or a 996, I cant afford a 997. I herd that the 996 Porsche’s were built very cheaply, but again that’s what I herd. I know the cayman is slower but its newer and built better. Which car would you get?

They Cayman and 996 are two different machines. My answer would depend on whether youre comparing the Cayman to a GT2 /GT3, 996 Turbo, Carrera , etc and whether its Cabriolet or not.
Maybe this can guide you in the right direction: If youre entirely after looks then I would go for the 996 (preferably the “S” for its beautiful wide body like the Turbo). If youre looking for power, again I would go with the 996. As far as the “cheap” feeling goes, its just a feeling. I believe they’re built solid.
If youre looking for handling, hands down, the Cayman! The Cayman has a slightly shorter wheelbase which gives it better cornering abilitites. Technically, the 996 is CONSIDERED to be a Mid-Engine car, but the Cayman is a true Mid engine (the motor clearly sits in FRONT of the rear axle rather than on it like the 996). This gives much better weight distribution that equates to phenomenal handling.
The Cayman was built in the 997 era so the interior and styling is much newer. I love the Cayman interiors, very sporty and classy at the same time. The 996 was nice a long time ago. Also the Cheap car feeling doesn’t exist in the Cayman (or any of the new generation Porsches).
It really boils down to this:
996 Carrera: More power, more appealing exterior, 17-24 MPG (base model)
Cayman: Incredible handling, gorgeous interior, better on gas 20-29 MPG (base model)
My personal favorite, the Carrera S Coupe. Spectacular looks, great performance, ample power, and much less than its lookalike Turbo.

I own a 2005 996 (Yes, they were still building 996-bodied cars, the Turbo, 4S, and Turbo S, in 2005, alongside the first 997s). The car is beautifully built. I’m sure there were some problems with the early 996s — 1999 and 2000 models — there are usually problems with any new or heavily-revised vehicle.
NOTE: Afficianados hated the 996 because it was the first water-cooled 911; even today, many of them believe only the earlier cars, ending with the 993, are truly 911s.
The 996 and 997 are NOT considered by anyone to be “mid-engine” cars. The 911s are all rear engine machines.
The Cayman is inherently (theoretically) more stable because of its rear mid-engine layout. That said, Porsche has spent untold sums to ‘defeat physics’ with the 911s, and it shows. A shorter wheelbase is not a good thing at high speeds.
The 996 were not built cheaply. They were very good reliable cars.
My favorite car is the Porsche Cayman S. But if you plan to get a normal Cayman, I would say just forget about it. The normal Cayman is no faster than a Nissan 350z, but costs so much money.
If you want a Cayman, Save for the Cayman S.
The 996. I have driven the 996 Carrera 4S and the normal 996 Carrera. They are faster, quicker, and more upscale. The back seats are too small for people, but can be used as extra trunk space. It might not be as much space as the Cayman, but still.
The Cayman also handles better, but because of its mid-engine design, you cannot fit a turbo kit because of the heat. And the parts available for that engine do not give it much power.
The 996 has many more aftermarket parts for serious power incase you ever want to add more power.
So overall, the 996 should be better.
I dont think the 996′s were built cheaply, but they are known for RMS issues. The Cayman is a nice car, i’d likely take a new Cayman S over a 996. Look into a boxster, or an older air cooled 911 such as a 993. They’re all good cars, just depends what you want.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
