Ferrari VS Porsche
Ferrari, named after founder father Enzo Ferrari, its symbol the prancing horse, is Italian through and through; oozing style, panache and class. Porsche, named after company founder Ferdinand Porsche, has a logo that is yet another (albeit rather more sedate) prancing horse, and represents serious German technology. The rivalry between the two teams on the sports car racing circuit was immortalised in the 1971 cult film, Le Mans, directed by Lee H. Kazin and starring Steve McQueen, which is famous for having no dialogue for over half an hour; the real stars of the film being the Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512.
Those lucky enough to own one of these mean machines, and even more so, those who dream that a lottery win will give them that opportunity, fall squarely into one camp or the other. Fans of one would apparently rather drive a milk float than the other brand. Although it’s probably safe to say that neutrals would be happy to have either!
But what can we expect from these two motoring legends in 2011? Well, the 2011 Geneva Motor Show saw the official unveiling of the Ferrari FF, not only a four seater, but a 4WD to boot, with the patented 4RM system which claims to be 50% lighter than normal 4×4 systems and which is smart enough only to kick in when road conditions demand it. Marketed as a “shooting-brake”, it combines all the sleek, sexy beauty of this Italian thoroughbred with a car that is remarkably practical, not only in terms of greater driving options, but also in its roominess; making it nearly as much fun to be a passenger as the driver. There’s also room for the shopping too in its surprisingly spacious boot.
Also new at Geneva 2011 was the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid, in which Porsche seems to be taking eco-friendliness on board. The 4-door, 4-seater Panamera S Hybrid is powered by both the conventional supercharged 3-litre V8 engine and a 47hp electric motor and can run on either or both drives combined. Performance figures are impressive and no doubt those in the Porsche camp will welcome the extra feel-good factor produced by this nod to the planet.
For those still dreaming of that lottery win that will buy them the car of their dreams, the battle is still good entertainment, but when most drivers step out of their economy models to get new tyres, replace windscreens or simply to fill up, and have the good fortune to glimpse one of these babies, they may just have to admit that either one would do nicely!

A lightweight and sleek design makes this car speed past the competition.
By Michael Frank
It’s a foot shorter, 500 pounds lighter and gets 33 more horsepower than the vaunted Porsche Carrera Turbo. But fast isn’t the best adjective for the Lancia Stratos. This car is going to put the fear of God into Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin owners. It will not only outsprint those marques, but out-corner them as well. The key is an übershort footprint barely two feet longer than a Mini Cooper, and an exceedingly low weight. Why sweat weight? Because it’s the enemy of great handling and cannot be overcome by suspension design. And if the rebirth of this car, the new Lancia Stratos, was to stand for anything, it had to be about producing the very best handling sports car on earth.
Or perhaps the best-handling car since the 1970s, when the Stratos HF, based on the Ferrari Dino, won three-straight World Cup titles, from 1974 to 1976.
This new Stratos, of which roughly 25 examples will be produced, was penned by brilliant design house, Pininfarina, and pays homage to the original batlike Stratos. Like the original, the 2011 Stratos is also based on a Ferrari, the 430 Scuderia, but is cut down from the original chassis by nearly a foot. A shorter chassis shaves nearly 200 pounds off the car’s weight, but the Stratos is also stiffer with a carbon body that’s directly bonde to the aluminum subframe. It is also safer thanks to an FIA approved roll cage, which the Ferrari lacks. At 2,900 pounds, the Stratos is lean, and with such a short wheelbase, begs to take corners as fast as you can focus on the next apex.
]]>
A near afterthought in all this talk of handling and carbon fiber re-skinning: The Stratos is as sharply angled and arresting to see as the original with a lower nose than the Ferrari, and the rear engine tucked in just aft of the driver, plumb ahead of the rear axle, and then boom, the car dead-ends right in back of the rear wheels. Beneath the shell, while this car has Ferrari at its roots, there are distinct differences. The seats are carbon buckets with a thin skin of leather, and even the dash and steering wheel are unique. Mechanically, the Stratos is deeply revised for higher performance. The donated Ferrari V8 is more urgent than that of the Scuderia thanks to a revised computer and exhaust that yield 533hp peak output. The engine launches the Stratos to 60 mph in three seconds flat, and you’re pulling 125 mph, in a 747-like sub-10 seconds. Remember that business about weight being the enemy of handling? Less weight is the friend of fearsome acceleration.
However, the fast run against the clock isn’t just about that Ferrari V8. The Stratos has a quicker-shifting transmission than the Scuderia—a sequential six-speed from Drexler that also allows for greater lockup of the rear wheels on launch. Finally, the suspension is entirely new as well, with driver-adjustable settings that deliver a far more aggressive, race car-like tune. If all this sounds like way more than a poser supercar, you’ve read right, because finally—well, maybe since the original Stratos was sold—a carmaker has realized that the best racing machine isn’t necessarily the one with more horsepower, but the one with the right combination of horsepower, low weight and a small footprint.

Porsche confirms electric prototypes
It’s official: Porsche is buying property on Electric Avenue. The German automaker recently confirmed the rumors of its electric prototype, saying engineers in Stuttgart are building several all-electric models. Wilton 2010 Porsche buyers will now have a greener option of their favorite brand.
Porsche has created three electric Boxsters, it says, to gain “an initial first important insight into new electric drive components and battery systems for all-electric vehicle drive.” Field testing will begin in 2011. No doubt that will be closely followed by more rumors, some spy photos and reports on the shape, color and speed of these prototypes.
Westport used Porsche dealers are excited by the possibilities that an all-electric car could provide. Not only might it draw new customers, but it would give current buyers the option to have a much more efficient car. Porsche drivers must have some desire to be eco-friendly, so this will allow them that expression without compromising their love of driving a powerful, sporty machine.

Porsche CEO Michael Macht said, “We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in the future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche.” Well said, Herr Macht. Porsche owners will not want to settle for anything less than the quality and power they are familiar with and that will take some work to achieve in an all-electric vehicle.
For now, Porsche lovers will have to settle for a hybrid sports car – that is, if they have the budget. The 918 Spyder hybrid, which couples a V8 gas engine and three electric motors for a total of 718 horsepower and an incredible 78.4 mpg is aimed at the upper echelon of the car buying public. It retails for 0,000.
The EV, however, is expected to have a much more affordable price tag of about 0,000. It also will have a power train similar to the Tesla Roadster, so there is that. Wilton 2010 Porsche customers may find this a relief, but let’s hope the all-electric is a bit more competitive price-wise with other brands or might never catch on in the mainstream. But then, that might be the whole idea. Porsche drivers do love to be exclusive.
So now we wait for word, or photos, on the all-electric, zero-emissions Porsche prototypes and the announcements of debut dates and price points. But knowing Porsche, it will be worth the wait.
Customers of any Westport used Porsche will want to check out the selection of certified pre-owned vehicles, most of which are priced a bit under 0,000. So whether you want a Porsche for its flash and power, just like the prestige of driving the Porsche label, or are sold on the reputation and dependability, the staff can find you a perfect fit.

How to Make Choice Between Porsche and Ferrari
Porsche is a car from Italy, the motherland of Ferrari is Germany. Each of these cars represents an exclusive understanding of the idea of a sports car. Both types of autos were created by a central patriarch. They about fifty years old and have production and technique integrity. The two models have always been confronting each other. Even those drivers who pay no attention to sports cars relate these two types with both quality and chic.
Take for instance the systematic Porsche 911 and the obsessive Ferrari F430. Both automobiles amaze the driver with their technical characteristics while effectively maintaining a decent amount of common sense, but these vehicles do not imitate being anything except a sports auto.
There are definite points every current sports car must possess. It has to start without difficulty. It is obliged to move around town adeptly and graciously. In case it is necessary it must know how to ride along country roads. The cars should both in style and quality, repeat the roots on the racetrack and simultaneously being absolutely harmless on any road.
As both automobiles meet and surpass these outlooks with self-confidence, and all the range of indescribable conditions are mainly established by personal likes, maybe the easiest method to contrast between the two vehicles is by weighing the details and figures.
Naturally such speeding up performance isn’t the major point to be considered unless the vehicles also do extremely well in the braking department. These automobiles come with not obligatory ceramic discs brakes. It creates the possibility of striking stopping.
Major points for any great car are tempo and silence. The technique and stance of the automobile attract clients greatly. According to its Porsche origin the Carrera 4S, not considering the current proportions, is easily identifiable as model of the 911 company. It is surely a beautiful vehicle and at the same time somehow the design never produces the jaw dropping effect that it previously did. The conservative people often claim that Porsche respects its roots, and Ferrari F430 provokes interest and catches the eye.
