Rhode Island 2010 MINI: MINI competes with Porsche

Rhode Island 2010 MINI: MINI competes with Porsche

Well, I can’t say I’m surprised that Porsche would beat Mini in a race, but Mini did hold its own to some extent and likely came out on top with buyers as well as getting the award having the guts to issue the challenge in the first place. Dealers of Rhode Island Hardtop Mini though it was a fun ride.

Not long ago Mini challenged Porsche to a run its 911 Carrera S and against the Cooper S. Apparently it was a serious tossing of the gauntlet. Serious good press, anyway. The competition took place on an infield course at the Road Atlanta.

The results: Porsche 911 came in two seconds faster than the Cooper S. Not bad considering the history of both vehicles. It’s not quite a tortoise and hare story, but the premise is there. Regardless, Mini milked the race for all it could, getting fans to sign a Facebook page about the challenge. Good news for Mini: Thousands of fans responded. Rhode Island 2010 Mini dealers were not surprised by the fan loyalty and participation. That’s just the kind of customer that gravitates to this sporty, diminutive car.

]]>

Porsche actually turned down the racing challenge, telling Mini to instead enter Daytona or LeMans. The German automaker which obviously takes racing quite seriously stated that Porsche did not race for publicity or stunts but only to “challenge ourselves’ we race to push sports car technology; we race to translate every win on the track to our cars on the road”. We take ourselves very seriously.

Well, Mini “trained” for the race anyway, with a video imitation of Rocky IV to rival even the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial. Then enters Hyundai. Yes, it just gets weirder and weirder. Playing along with the chance of some positive publicity the Korean company pitted the Genesis coupe against Mini Cooper.

Hyundai then dangled a carrot for Porsche – a donated Accent if Porsche would race. Apparently Porsche came through; we’re not told what changed their minds. And Hyundai’s offer was not accepted either. Rhode Island Hardtop Mini customers are still puzzling over this added incentive. Who was the donated car going to benefit and was Hyundai going to race Porsche and Mini?

So, how will they compete and compare in sales numbers. That will remain to be seen. Obviously Mini and Porsche will appeal to different buyers and even slightly different income levels. Hyundai is a whole other ballgame, successfully selling itself on affordability.

One thing is certain: Mini garnered some attention, a few new fans and a whole lotta fun out of this stunt. And we have to assume that’s what it was. Rhode Island 2010 Mini customers can check out the details online and then check out the new models in the showroom.

Pontiac, Saturn, and Porsche Sports Cars

Pontiac, Saturn, and Porsche Sports Cars

Three of the car manufacturing companies that have a history of offering impressive sports cars over the years are Pontiac, Saturn, and Porsche. All of these car makers provide solid sports car features, particularly in regards to their Pontiac engine, Saturn engine, and Porsche engine. The three brands of sports cars are compared in the following paragraphs.

Saturn proved to be one of the General Motors brands that was discontinued in 2009 as the company was reorganized. The Saturn engine in its sports cars demonstrated impressive abilities until the end. In 2009 Saturn Sky sports cars, the inline four version of the Saturn engine put out a solid 173 hp, while the upgraded V8 Saturn engine produced a more competitive 260 hp. The brand was renowned for its sharp styling, high performance Saturn engine in the red line model, comfortable ride on the highway, and low pricing relative to its various sports car competitors. Though the car had a devoted following up until the end with its powerful Saturn engine and sleek styling, General Motors shelved half of its brands, and the Saturn Sky went the way of the entire Saturn line up.

Pontiac was a General Motors brand that had suffered a decline in popularity throughout the 1990′s. The Pontiac engine actually found use in a variety of different GM brands over the years, as a Pontiac engine typically provided high performance. Pontiac sports car models like the 1980′s Pontiac Fiero and 1990′s Pontiac Sunfire, as well as the more impressive and current 2000′s models Pontiac G8, helped to keep the brand going until it was finally shut down by GM in 2009. The promising sports car only lasted for two years as a result of being launched in 2008. The Pontiac engine in the G8 provided a potent 361 hp, making it as powerful as most any competing sports car on the market. The G8 GXP model Pontiac engine bumped the performance up to Pontiac’s ultimate achievement in putting out 415 hp. Last year, in 2009, the final Pontiac sports cars were produced.

Porsche sports cars possess a practically unblemished reputation as among the greatest performing vehicle on the planet. They have earned this high level reputation over many years. The Porsche engine boasts of an impressive power output, while the vehicles offer pin point handling. A Porsche engine and car provides a driving experience that is unparalleled. It should come as no surprise that many individuals consider the Porsche marque to represent the entire sports car genre. Naturally, these sports cars come with a high price tag as well. Although only aerodynamic sports cars were offered by the firm for many decades, recently they have enlarged their offering to cover different kinds of vehicles.

To understand what the Porsche engine is capable of, several of the 2011 models driving specs are considered. The Porsche engine in the Boxter provides an impressive 255 hp. The Boxter S attains 310 hp. A Porsche engine in the Cayman manages 265 hp, while its Cayman S model delivers 320 hp. Finally, the Porsche engine found in the 911 Carrera delivers an amazing 345 hp, going from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds.

In the end, of the three makes of beloved sports cars, only Porsche has survived the economic turmoil of the last few years. Although the Pontiac engine and the Saturn engine powered hot, fancy sports cars, they will only live on as collectibles. The Porsche sports car now exists almost without competitors.

An Overview of the Porsche 365

An Overview of the Porsche 365

The Porsche 356 is the first Porsche production automobile and it was sold from 1948 through 1965. Although many consider Porsche 64 as being the first automobile produced by the German company, the 64 was never mass-produced and it was only a drivable test-mule. The 364 was created by Ferdinand Porsche and his son, Ferry Porsche, designed by Erwin Komenda and its engine features derived from the Volkswagen Beetle, deigned by Mr. Porsche Senior.

The models available were initially coupe, cabriolet (luxury convertible) and then roadster (a stripped down convertible). Before being withdrawn in 1965, it went through several changes. The most desirable versions were 356 “Carrera” (often sold for well over 0,000), “Super 90″ and “Speedster”. In the late 50`s, the original selling price for a Porsche was ,000.

In 1954, Max Hoffman, the only importer of Porsches into United States needed a lower cost, racier version for the American marker. Therefore, the company created 356 “Speedster” that became a instant hit thanks to the low, raked windshield (easily removable for weekend racing), bucket seats, and minimal folding top. These days, this car is still very appreciated as it is sold for over 0,000 and it has been used in several films, including 48 Hours, its sequel – Another 48 Hours and Top Gun. In 1957, the production of Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars. In 1959 it was replaced by the Convertible D model, which featured a taller, more practical windshield, glass side windows, and more comfortable seats.

]]>

Year after year, the basic shape of Porsche 356 remained the same and was easily recognized and remarked, even though changes were made, especially in the mechanical area. Coupe and cabriolet models were produced every year up to 1965, with the last 356B Roadster built in early 1963. The final model build was 356 C that featured disc brakes and the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche so far: the 95HP “SC”.

In the year that Porsche launched 911, 1964, Porsche 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars. Still, the company continued to sell the 356C in North America through the end of 1965 as a lower-cost vehicle. When the customers complained the price for 911 was too high (almost twice the price of the 356), Porsche started producing the 912, using the 356 engine. The 912model was sold between 1965 and 1969.

56 years after the beginning of the production, Sports Car International named 356C number ten on the list of Top Sports cars of the 60`s. Today, the 356 is a respected car among the collectors, as it stood the test of time. Worldwide, thousands of 356 owners maintain the tradition, preserving their cars and driving them regularly.

Porsche Boxter: Most Satisfying Sports Car in America

AutoPacific, a California-based automotive marketing and product-consulting firm has just released the result of their Vehicle Satisfaction survey and after asking thousands of new car owners of their choice for the most satisfying sports car in the United States, the 2007 Porsche Boxster came out on the top spot.

The Porsche Boxster and Boxster S received the Vehicle Satisfaction Award (VSA), considered the industry benchmark for clearly measuring how satisfied new-car owners are with their vehicles. Boxster owners rated their cars highly within the Power/Acceleration and Braking categories, as well as the Cargo/Space/Capacity, Cupholders and Interior Storage areas of the survey.

“Sports cars are supposed to be exhilarating to drive, but sometimes difficult to live with,” noted George Peterson, president of AutoPacific in the Company’s release on Tuesday. “Owners of the Porsche Boxster indicate it delivers on exhilarating, but it is not difficult to live with.”

The Boxster remains a constant winner in consumer opinion surveys, thanks to the ultimate open-air driving experience it continues to provide. Its unique mid-engine configuration, numerous handling enhancements and greater active and passive safety makes it the acknowledged leader in its segment – definitely something you’ll wish fervently for if you still own and drive one of those Yugos (with their Yugo oxygen sensor).

]]>

Redesigned for 2005, Porsche’s moderately priced sports car again comes in base and Boxster S forms. For 2007, Porsche has boosted the power of both models and modified the Tiptronic transmission to be more responsive for those who don’t want to drive a stick shift. The Boxster’s 2.7-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder gains 5 horsepower (to 245), and its torque grows by 2 pounds-feet (to 201). Torque for that engine peaks 100 rpm earlier than the previous engine. It also gains VarioCam Plus for variable valve timing and lift control.

Both versions have dedicated head-protection airbags and the Porsche Stability Management system.

For 2007, the Boxster S comes with a new six-cylinder power unit enlarged in size by 0.2 litres. Output of this 3.4-litre with VarioCam Plus valve control is 217 kW (295 bhp), 15 bhp more than on the former 3.2-litre.Benefiting from this extra power, the new Boxster S accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, one-tenth of a second faster than its predecessor. Top speed, in turn, is up by 4 km/h to 272 km/h or 169 mph. And average fuel consumption of the S-model is 10.6 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 26.6 mpg Imp.

Rivals include the Audi TT, BMW Z4, Honda S2000 and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.

AutoPacific is a future-oriented automotive marketing and product-consulting firm. Every year it publishes a wide variety of syndicated studies on the automotive industry. Company headquarters and its state-of-the-art automotive research facility are in Tustin, California, with an affiliate office in the Detroit area. Proper Care Instructions for Your Favorite Racing Clothes

Proper Care Instructions for Your Favorite Racing Clothes

There is an old saying that the clothes make the man, and this is particularly true when you’re wearing something that is designed for something that you specifically enjoy. That is perhaps why you see more and more people wearing clothing that is tailored to their favorite sport, or perhaps even their favorite automobile. If you love the Porsche, there is some clothing that is available for you which will help you to let everybody know the fact that you do. Additionally, there are some choices that are available, from T-shirts to hoodies that will match almost any style that you enjoy.

One thing that you would always want to keep in mind when purchasing any type of clothing is going to be the quality. This is not only true of the material that is used, but it is also true of the way in which it was manufactured. Porsche is considered by many to be one of the finest automobiles that was ever created, so you certainly would want to make sure that you’re wearing high-end clothing when you’re wearing anything having to do with that automobile. High-quality clothing is also going to fit better, feel better and look better while you’re wearing it.

]]>

In most areas of the world, at some time or another you’re going to want to wear a T-shirt. These are a comfortable option, and there are plenty of racing tees that are available for you to choose from. In most cases, the quality of the T-shirt is going to be considered after the design or logo that appears on the shirt. If you’re into racing, you also want to make sure that you choose the team that you follow regularly. Most people that are diehard racing fans would never even consider wearing a shirt that was designed for an opposing team.

Have you given any thought to the size of the shirt that you were going to be purchasing? This is often where many people go wrong, as not every shirt and every designer is going to make these sizes universal. It is generally a better idea if you go larger with the size of the shirt that you need because it is always going to look better to have a larger T-shirt than to have one that is too small. You also need to consider the fact that in many cases, these shirts are going to shrink when they are washed for the first time so one that fits the first time may not fit the second time around.

If you choose anything with a patch on it, make sure that you turn it inside out before washing it. This will help to protect the logo and any other design that’s on the shirt so that it will continue to be something that is worthy of wearing for the long term. For any other usage and care instructions that may be needed, you can usually find the information on the tag at the collar of the shirt.

Genuine Porsche Parts

It is but the accumulation of several accessories that makes every car what it is. The Porsche is no different. It is ultimately the result of the configuration of thoroughly researched automobile Porsche parts that gives its unique class and lives up to the expectations of its admirers. The car is only developed after a lot of detailing in all aspects of its engine, suspension, body, intake, exhaust or other parts. Each of these parts are tested and regulated for best performance and capacity. These Porsche parts too have their sub accessories which play a key role in the cars reliability and demands finally resulting in better performance. Hence, they too are handled with extreme detailing and care.

Every part of the Porsche is developed to suit a requirement. For example, the wheels of a Porsche can be of several styles namely mulsanne, zehn, florio, lemans or tourismo depending upon the user requirement. Moreover, these wheel specifications may even change as per the required car type or model. These can be classified into the 911, Boxster, Panamera, Cayman, and Cayenne.

Similarly, the exhaust tube used in Porsche is of several capacities and styles depending on the model requirement. These include the Borla exhaust, the Gibson exhaust, or the turbo exhaust. The tail lights used in Porsche are high capacity LED beam taillights having colors like the light or dark smoke, tinted or clear tails attached on model owing to their styling.

In order to take the cars adaptability and comfort to the next level, the Porsche cars implement detailed air filters, fuel injectors, and spacers. The most commonly used intake filters are the V6 ones. Two of the most important requirement of a car is balance and acceleration, both of which are highly dependent on the brakes. Hence, the builders of Porsche keep a special tab on them. The different brakes these models combinedly use consists of OE ceramic rear brakes, disc brakes with rear and front touch sensors. Hawk HPS, and the Panamera brakes.

Though it is impossible to cover all the information regarding Porsche Parts in such limited detail, an idea of the same can be attained from the above.

All-wheel Drive for Porsche 911 Targa

Wednesday 12 October 2011 @ 11:17 pm

All-wheel Drive for Porsche 911 Targa

Porsche enthusiasts are excited about the new offer from Porsche. This offer is all about the permanent all-wheel drive given by the automaker to Porsche 911 Targa. The vehicle is now on sale.

All-wheel drive (AWD), otherwise called as four-wheel drive, 4×4, 4WD, is a term used to describe a 4-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that is capable of allowing all the four wheels to simultaneously get power from the engine. This feature is commonly associated with off-road vehicles nonetheless; all-wheel drive is crucial in providing better control on slippery ice and race tracks on paved streets.

The term is originally used to describe truck-like vehicles that necessitate switching between a 2-wheel drive mode for roads and a 4-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions like ice, gravel and mud. AWD is common for identical drivetrain systems that will be marketed for both the upmarket and downmarket branding. However, it is also common for different drivetrain systems that will be marketed under the same name for brand homogeny.

]]>

Porsche aficionados can now enjoy the fact that AWD is now made permanent for Targa. Aside from the AWD, Targa is equipped with lots of breath-taking Porsche car parts. Both Targa and 996 have common denominator and said feature contribute significantly to its “wow factor.” The striking feature is the huge glass roof and opening rear window. The glass roof plus the rear window are capable of inviting light and fresh air when they are left opened. The glass roof can be opened by up to half a meter in a matter of 7 seconds. This can be done by employing 2 electric motors. According to the automaker, to fully open the roof, it would take about 0.45 square meters.

Porsche factory parts for the roof panel of Targa are built of 2-ply tinted glass, which is lighter by 1.9kg than its predecessor. The automaker has developed a sealing system that minimizes wind noise. Also, wind deflector reduces turbulence inside the car. Targa also allows open-air free-spirited driving when outside temperature is accommodating. Subsequently, the semi-translucent roller sunblind is used to provide shade in the interior of the car when the roof is closed. The roller blind and the glass roof can be maneuvered using a rocker switch.

Porsche 911 Targa is powered by 3.6-litre six cylinder 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine that delivers 239kW. The S variant, the most powerful among the variants, uses a 3.8-litre engine that produces a top speed of 355bhp. The car is also equipped with Porsche VarioCam Plus valve control system, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), and other striking car features.
